Higher education and specialized courses, until recently, were not available to many aspiring students due to financial and time constraints. Distance education courses aim to fulfill those aspirations by making available the course materials at the fingertips of the students. How is distance education able to achieve these objectives? Through what mediums does distance education work to bring the knowledge to the doorsteps of the students? Read on to find learning mediums used in Distance Education.
1. Postal and Courier system
With the advent and proliferation of emails and other instant messaging systems, people predicted the death of the traditional postal system. However, the postal system, including courier services, is the backbone of distance education, especially in developing countries. The study materials and other books required for successful completion of distance education is sent through courier and speed post. Timely and safe delivery of the books and other content is essential in ensuring that the candidates have uninterrupted study schedules. Many courses include distance learning BBA programs depend on the postal and courier logistics for delivery of the course materials.
2. Virtual Classes
Popular chat applications like Gtalk etc., have enabled virtual classes to take place anywhere and at anytime. There is no need for students to remain physically present in classrooms during the lectures. Virtual classes can be conducted from the comforts of your home. A stable internet connection and a webcam are all that is required for an effective virtual class. There is also an option to have pre recorder virtual classes which can be accessed online either for free or for a subscription fee.
3. Emails
Emails are used to solve doubts and queries quickly. In full time courses, you may need to wait to have your doubts solved, which may even take days. On the other hand, emails can help you clarify your doubts in a short time or even instantly. Supporting study materials like PDF attachments and presentations can also be sent via emails. Many distance education institutions have their own email systems to manage the student query and other course related issues.
4. Mobile Communications
On the eve of examinations, distance education institutions open helpline for students to solve last minute doubts. This is helpful if they are stuck on one important aspect in the last hour. This option may not be available in a full time course. Some institutes even provide toll free calling service for the students.
5. Social Media Platforms
Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have become mainstream for today’s youngsters. Institutions have started their own pages on Facebook, which give interesting information and study materials for many courses, including correspondence BBA Courses. Social media platforms ensure wider reach and instant connect. Today’s students are on FB 24 X 7. Important notifications such as exam schedules of Distance BBA Programs can be announced via social media platforms.
The above five mediums are vital in ensuring a successful distance learning course. Ensure that your chosen institute takes advantage of every medium for your benefit.
